Citeb’s entire 2024–2026 action plan, “Support for Innovation Support Structures” (EFRO Measure 1.1.11), is structured around activities designed for and aimed at public, private, scientific, institutional, and economic partners, and focuses on three main themes:
- Aquaculture and biotechnology,
- Fishing,
- Environment.
These translate into four distinct actions, organized into the following components:
- Action 1: Activities carried out for the benefit of Citeb users in the field of the marine environment (COMPONENT 1)
- Action 2: Activities carried out as the implementing body for the regional smart specialization strategy in the field of the marine environment (COMPONENT 2)
- Action 3: Investment tailored to the needs of expanding service offerings in the environmental sector (COMPONENT 3)
- Action 4: Activities carried out for the benefit of Citeb users and as a key player in the regional strategy for smart specialization in the fields of aquaculture, related biotechnologies, and fisheries (COMPONENT 4)
Component 4: Support for activities carried out as implementing bodies of the regional smart specialization strategy for the aquaculture and fisheries sectors
1. Aquaculture and the Port’s Wet Technical Facility
This sub-initiative aims to establish, in the medium term, a specialized marine research facility focused on research and economic development in the blue economy, capable of meeting the current and future needs of stakeholders.
2. Aquaculture and Biotechnology
This sub-action aims to help redefine the range of services offered in the field of aquaculture and to strengthen the technical center’s position in the field of biotechnology, particularly as it relates to microalgae and corals.
3. Support for the fishing industry
In the fisheries sector, this sub-action aims to address the needs of Réunion’s longline fleet and the challenges facing the small-scale fishing fleet. In this area, the technology watch conducted throughout the year will continue to focus on innovations in fishing techniques, tools for improving and reducing the impacts of fishing, and cartographic and regulatory tools. Particular attention will be given to sharing the most relevant information with professional fishermen, trade organizations, and institutions in Réunion. Participation in the working groups of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) and the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA) is being considered.
These activities also aim to establish the research and expertise laboratory on marine biotoxins. As this facility is intended to be a center of excellence—the only one of its kind in France—Citeb aims to provide professionals and institutions with reliable expertise and diagnostic tools.
